Priority Seating Goggles

Not planned at all. Just looked up and the newspaper fell open like this.

"Even the thought of trying to strap on leaky, foggy raccoon-eye goggles is enough to sink the workout of many swimmers. But just as indoor pools are heating up for the winter, new underwater eye gear has surfaced."

Clean Streets

Late night. Cleaning the street in front of the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Central Park South. Reading The City took a closer look at this phenomenon last week.

Yummy Cold Chicken Meatloaf Sandwich

New Caporal Fried Chicken and Shrimp on 156th and Broadway. The most unhealthiest place to eat in Manhattan. 1" thick bulletproof glass protects the chicken man from the upstanding clientele. Their logo is a chicken with a gun. Chicken and shrimp was pretty damn good. Comes with a mountain of french fries too.

Lock 'Em Up

Can you believe the thieves were nice enough to leave the seat and the pedals? Manhattan is littered with bicycles like this. There are thousands of them chained up all over the city. It's a good thing someone has a plan.

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow

This has been long overdue. The Hi-Top Fade is coming back big time. Here is an interesting variation. More information for the curious here.

Moving Morning Minstrels

If you were looking for a little peace and quiet on your commute this morning, the N/R line was not the place to find it. These buskers move between subway cars playing and singing for tips. I think you might call them jarochos, wandering bands of minstrel musicians, similar to mariachis.

The Back of the Van

There's a lack of public facilities in New York City. Not sure why the door is wide open, but here's an option if you are in the Union Square area and are looking for a unisex (?) restroom.

The Weight of the World

A Tom Otterness sculpture waiting to be unloaded on 57th Street across from Rizzoli Books.

The Morning Commute

Waiting in line. Always a long line to get out of the subway tunnel on the way to the office.

Sleepy Cowboy on 5th

10AM. 5th Avenue and 46th Street. Totally exhausted.

Pants On Pants Off

Is this a very comfortable way to wear pants? Praying for this trend to end.

UPDATE: I'm not the only one. Trendwatcher and fashion photograper Bill Cunningham of The New York Times takes note of this unique way of wearing your pants. Apparently this is possibly related to the stock market fall and the coming Great Depression of 2008-2009?

Truck Drenched in Graffiti

All of the trucks in New York City are covered with excessively colorful graffiti.

Street Sleeping

Finding a comfortable place to sleep at 3PM is easy in New York City. Any random brick wall will do.

Graffiti on 27th Street and Lexington Avenue

One of the best pieces of graffiti in New York City. This reminds me of a book that Testify Books just published about subway graffiti characters and cartoons.

Traveling From Tennessee To Seattle Need Help

A bench on Fifth Avenue, somewhere between Tennessee and Seattle.

Bryant Park Siestas

New Yorkers work much too hard. There's nothing wrong with a quick nap in Bryant Park at lunchtime to catch up on some much needed sleep.

Hello Kitty

Tom Sachs' 21-foot tall painted bronze sculpture of Hello Kitty at Lever House. If you look closely you will see the artist standing beneath his sculpture.

Hipster Pretzels

This is clearly the optimal way to hold a street pretzel.

Make Love Not War

6th Avenue and 58th Street. A beautiful Sunday afternoon just south of Central Park. Postcards at the bargain price of 10 cents each.

Not Your Average Starbucks Customer

A tourist from England standing at the Astor Place Starbucks on Sunday afternoon. Did he order a Grande Coffee Frappuccino or perhaps a Double Soy Venti-sized Mocha Valencia? It takes him about 20 minutes to get his hair to stand up like this. I asked. He looks mean, but he was quite nice. I admired his hair, but I didn't touch it.
