Street Grinding in Times Square

Work on the city streets occurs at all hours of the day and night. So it not surprising that a crew is hard at work grinding up the streets at 11PM on a Wednesday night in the middle of Times Square. Traffic gets blocked, pedestrians are rerouted and the noise level goes up about a hundred decibels.

What I love best is that they have the most fearless guys in all of New York City operating this heavy machinery. They just really don't give a fuck. It's late at night in the dead center of the busiest city in the world and they're grinding up the pavement with one of the scariest looking machines ever invented with lit cigarettes dangling out of their mouths. Awesome.

12:30am Construction

This is a prime example of why people don't sleep well in New York City. These four guys are out after midnight with jack hammers and bright lights digging up the street making an enormous racket. The good thing is that these construction workers (probably on city overtime) are close to Trump Tower so The Donald and Ivanka and the rest of the Trump clan have to deal with the noise.

Aren't you glad these guys aren't outside your house right now?

Closed Set

Night time road work in the middle of 6th Avenue.

These construction crews work round the clock digging up the avenues throughout the city. I suppose it's a necessary evil in a bustling metropolis. It only really bothers me when I notice how loud everything is here or when they are digging up the street with those noisy jackhammers at 3:30am outside my apartment. Oh yes, it happens all the time.

It's amazing to see how in the center of a city like this one, even the torn up streets look like movie sets. Unfortunately, no one ever asks the back-hoe operators for their autographs -- though they probably contribute a hell of a lot more to our daily lives than Ashton Kutcher (twitter posts notwithstanding) ever will.

Cranes Are Falling

Cranes are really scary. The view for the men standing on top of those rickety looking 2x4s must be amazing.
