Some random people eating street food on the Lower East Side. This is the picture that almost started the fight. Some people just don't like their picture being taken. I liked the graffiti behind them and the fact that they were all simultaneously stuffing their faces. When you're hungry, you're hungry.

Birthday Balloons

I didn't get any balloons or birthday cake this year. But I am very happy with my excellent graffiti truck drawings (thanks Mame!) dinner at Craft (thanks Ted and Anya!) and birthday card (thanks Julie!) The rest of you stink.

A Trip To The Museum

This is just plain silly. W is for Window. We found it. The Met has all these books that lead you to search around the museum looking for various aspects of the paintings. It's a fun Saturday afternoon at the Met until someone bumps their head.

Everything Under The Sun

There are so many things contained in this photo that I am almost surprised myself...and I took it. The new newsstands cropping up across the city can't possibly compare to how much stuff they can squeeze inside these bashed-up rickety metal boxes on the street corners of the Big Apple.

Can you find: every possible porno mag in print and a selection of DVDs, 15 kinds of cold/headache medicine, Kleenex, 5 kinds of Welch's Fruit Snacks, Double AA batteries, a dangerously unsafe space heater, Chapstick, Sharpies, all kinds of potato chips (I see some bags of Ruffles) and nuts and who knows what else, Binaca, a box of straws, two really disgusting looking florescent lights, Altoids, dozens of candy packages (I like Raisinets, Swedish Fish, Goobers, Almond Joy and M&Ms) and one cool looking bespectacled newsstand guy wearing what looks like a Norwegian fisherman's cap.

Too Many Wheat Thins

You can never really have too many Wheat Thins, can you? I think they are totally the best. I prefer a whole box of the Classic Wheat Thins in front of the TV set, but c'mon Nabisco, how many varieties do we need?

Look closely...I count Original Wheat Thins, Reduced Fat Wheat Thins, Wheat Thins Artisan Vermont White Cheddar, Wheat Thins Artisan Wisconsin Colby, Wheat Thins Parmesan Basil, Wheat Thins Hint of Salt, Wheat Thins Basil, Wheat Thins 100% Whole Grain, Wheat Thins Fiber Selects Garden Vegetable, Wheat Thins Reduced Fat Roasted Garlic & Herb, Wheat Thins Fiber Selects Five Grain, Wheat Thins Reduced Fat Country French Onion, Wheat Thins BIG, and Wheat Thins Cream Cheese & Chives. 14 Varieties! And I know that there are some low sodium ones that this store didn't stock since it's a smaller grocery store on 57th Street near Broadway in Midtown Manhattan

I think they forget a couple of my favorite variations. How about Wheat Thins Low Sodium Spaghetti & Meatballs, Wheat Thins BIG Prosciutto and Melon, and Thin Crust Wheat Thins Pepperoni.

Manhattan By Carriage

I don't know many New Yorkers that take these horse-drawn carriages as they are really geared towards tourists, but I am fairly certain that galloping through the park on a snowy evening might be a good way to enjoy a handful of leftover Valentine's Day cookies.

Clock Hands Strangle

Clock Hands Strangle performing on Tuesday night at Pianos on Ludlow Street. There are great bands playing every night of the week in a city like New York. This band is from Melbourne Beach, FL and I met them when I saw them play on the beach back in September. They finally made it to New York this week as part of their tour across the country. They are a great group of guys and I love that they incorporate a trombone into a lot of their songs since I played trombone when I was very little.

I liked them so much that I went out to see them play two nights in a row. Full of energy, spark and youthful enthusiasm, they played to small but very engaged crowds at Mercury Lounge on Monday night and at Pianos on Tuesday.

I connected them with my good friend Geza X (I met him when I was 13!) and he mixed their brand new record, "Distaccati." Geza is a legendary Los Angeles-based producer who produced records for the Germs, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, the Weirdos and many other seminal punk bands. He also produced Meredith Brooks' 1997 hit single "Bitch".

I'm optimistic that CHS will be the next great band Geza has worked with.

Since I'm talking about music, a couple weeks back I mentioned Felicia Barton as someone I liked who is on the current season of American Idol. She caught a really lucky break today when Joanna Pacitti was disqualified and Felicia took her place among the top 36 contestants. Competition is really tough on a show like American Idol with some truly great performers, but I'm glad Felicia got another chance to show her stuff.

The PR Girls

These are the helpful young ladies that will make sure your name is on the list for the 6th Annual Women's Day Red Dress Awards. Tonight at Time Warner Center for another red carpet event. How do I get on these mailing lists? I totally forgot my red dress. And my man bra.

18 Miles of Books

The Strand is the largest bookstore in New York City. It's huge and I love going there. They claim that there are 18 miles of books scattered across several floors.

I don't think anyone has ever taken the time to measure how many miles of florescent lights there are hanging from the ceiling. Any guesses?

Little dog

I think it would be embarrassing to have to walk a little girlie dog. Cats would never put up with having to wear a coat. When I was growing up, our cats went outside all the time - summer or winter. They never needed a tiny coat to keep warm. Dogs can be such wimps.

I hate it when you're trying to take a picture of a bus and suddenly someone just leaps into your perfectly framed shot. Although he seems like a extremely happy guy, it looks like we'll have to get to the bus another time.

All City Tags

Subway maps for sale this afternoon in Union Square. Only $10. If you look closely they are very well done. I should have bought one. They hand out clean non-graffiti versions in the subway for free if you ask for one.

Kessler's Liquors

Immediate delivery is important when you need your liquor.

The Kessler name has a history in Manhattan liquor dating back to Prohibition in the 1920's. I wonder if the owners of this store are any relation to Emanuel Kessler:

Several of his associates in bootlegging enterprises presented a picture of largescale operations by the petitioner from early in Prohibition past the time of his application for citizenship. Emanuel Kessler, a big operator apprehended in 1923 and convicted for his activities, financed, about 1921, the petitioner's purchase of trucks to haul Kessler's liquors after Kessler landed them on Long Island from boats on the high seas.

58th Street Steampunk

The city seems like it runs on steam in the winter or summer. On a very cold day, it certainly makes you wonder what is going on beneath the steamy streets of the city.

Window Painting

Mackenzie-Childs is a super unique store on 57th Street that sells all kinds of wildly colorful plates and bowls and platters and furniture and more. I don't really ever have any reason to go in there and look around, but they always have great stuff in the window. Most of the stuff is not my style, but in the right location it could probably work well. I could use a small wooden serving spoon with rainbow stripes for no other reason than just because it looks kind of cool.

I like that they have hand-painted displays. I caught this one being painted on my way to the gym.

Abercrombie Peek-a-Boo

It seems that someone is clearly taking a little break from work and playing an afternoon game of hide and seek. Peering around the corner on 56th Street outside the Manhattan flagship Abercrombie and Fitch store. Trump Tower is located directly across the street.
