Lights at Night

I haven't been very good about posting lately. I've been preoccupied with a million other things and it seem that every time I think to get around to posting, it's always so late and I feel too tired to post anything. I have been taking a lot of pictures, some good, mostly bad. I am going to try to be better about it. I have been good about riding my bike a lot lately. 10-15 miles a day or so. I am in really good shape now so that's something to feel good about.

Out The Window

I went and bought a new bicycle today. I don't know how I'm going to be able to afford it, but I bought it anyway.

Office Work

The Great Recession may have hurt a lot of people economically, but it doesn't seem that way when you see all the lights on in these midtown office buildings. The workers always stay late into the night toiling away inside of the huge skyscrapers. Or maybe it's just the cleaning people who are working late. Either way, there's no way they need to have all these lights on. What's the point? When is the energy crisis coming? I hope gas prices shoot up to $6 or $7 a gallon this summer.

Night time in NYC

Sorry, for the typical Manhattan photo. Nothing too exciting or fascinating. Just a shot of the big city.

I really couldn't think of anything I wanted to post right now. I do have all these really good stories and some excellent photos of random things I've been thinking about and have seen around the city, but tonight I wasn't feeling especially creative. I've been a little distracted though so I probably should write something really controversial and I'll get some comments from those quiet people.

Sarah Morris on West 40th Street

Sarah Morris makes excellent paintings with household gloss paint. She is definitely one of my favorite artists. She usually works in bright colors and makes huge interlocking shapes. She's also a pretty decent filmmaker. I saw her lecture at the Guggenheim a few years back and she was extremely good-natured and outgoing.

Here's a huge Sarah Morris panel display that I stumbled upon in the lobby of 104 West 40th Street in Midtown near Bryant Park. You can find all sorts of cool stuff like this in New York if you keep your eyes open. I saw this on Saturday night after the first night of The Coffee C'Art on my way to a late night in the editing room doing the sound mix on the movie. Blah, blah, blah.

50 Year Anniversary

The Hula Hoop first came to market in 1958.  Here's a snazzy gentleman rocking a classic model while posing in Midtown on 57th Street and 6th Avenue in front of Staples.  

53rd Street Waterfall

Waterfall hidden in Midtown on 53rd Street between 5th and Madison. A good place for lunch or just hanging out.

Full Moon over 42nd Street

The view down 42nd Street looking towards the Chrysler Building. It sort of looks like a street light, but the bright light in the sky is a full moon.

Art Rack

This appears to be one of those times when you notice something and then you start seeing it everywhere. I saw another one of those ridiculous David Byrne-designed red bike racks in front of the Museum of Modern Art on 54th Street today. It doesn't look like anyone has ever used this bike rack even though it makes a nice marker for the local hot dog cart. Who is going to use this as a bike rack with a hot dog stand right up next to it? There were lots of tourists buying pretzels at 10:30am.

No Cavities

This is the view from the dentist's office today. Do you think this very good view of the Empire State Building makes the drilling a bit more pleasant?
