Pee-wee Herman on Broadway

Pee-wee Herman outside the Steven Sondheim Theater on Sunday after a rainy evening performance. His show plays on Broadway until early next month. My six word review: "It was very entertaining and funny."

Halloween 2010

It was another wild night in New York City for Halloween. The streets in the Village were jammed with thousands and thousands of people out in creative costumes celebrating the holiday and there was a massive parade as well. I'm not really sure exactly what everyone is celebrating. What is the point of Halloween anyway? Are people celebrating the arrival of the Great Pumpkin? Time to check Wikipedia. I thought it was a worldwide phenomenon, but it looks like the don't have Halloween in Russia, China, Italy, New Zealand or basically just about anywhere aside from Ireland, Scotland, US and Canada. How is this possible? Don't they eat candy in the rest of the world?

I went out for a delicious sushi dinner and then enjoyed everyone acting crazy and running around in costumes. As far as I could tell, everyone seemed super happy and like they were having a really good time. I'll all for that.

Open Door Policy

Why does every guy who owns an expensive and flashy sports car in New York City feel the compulsive need to open all the doors and windows in the middle of the street? Is this absolutely necessary? Ok, we get it. You have a snazzy car. It matches your small penis.

In case you are wondering, the car is a Lotus.

Three other automobile related things I just noticed in picture. (1) Stylish looking woman wearing white trenchcoat and smoking is carrying a Mercedes Benz tote bag. (2) Zipcar office in background. (3) Food establishment on corner called "Speedy's."

Saturday Siesta

Taking a well-deserved nap after a sunny Saturday spent biking tourists around midtown. 58th Street and Broadway. 6:15pm.

It's amazing how much traffic I am getting from all over the world. Click the map to the right a few times to blow it up full screen and see where. Also buy a copy of my new Andy Warhol book, "The Autobiography and Sex Life of Andy Warhol." It's inexpensive and if you like art and appreciate great photography you are sure to enjoy it. It's less than $30 on Amazon. What a bargain!

Burger Mania

Manhattan has gone burger crazy the last couple years. I've never been to this place right in the heart of Times Square so I can't vouch for their burgers, but I like the sign. HB Burger is part of Heartland Brewery which isn't the most well-respected eating establishment in the city, but who knows maybe they make a good burger.

Slicing Nova Lox

Nova or Nova Scotia salmon, is sometimes called Nova lox and is salmon cured with a mild brine and then cold-smoked. It is beyond delicious on a bagel with cream cheese and the guys behind the counter at Zabar's slice it as good as any place I know.

Bagels Delivered Fresh Overnight

If you like bagels and you need them overnight, this would be the place to get them. H&H Bagels on the Upper West Side. This is the largest bagel maker in New York City.

Oh No, It's The Naked Cowboy

How I managed to take this picture after I broke (ok, it's fractured) my elbow I have no idea.

I thought he got a ton of money from M&M's and didn't have to walk around in his underwear anymore? It would actually be much cooler if he dressed up like an M&M.

It looks like TNC needs a hot oil treatment for his hair. Maybe he can get a sponsor a little bit better than Icon Parking Systems, don't you think? I hope they're paying for that prime real estate on his guitar.

Sofia Ristorante Italiano

It's hard to imagine how some of these restaurants in Times Square stay in business, but it's all about location. I've never eaten here and the food probably really sucks at Sofia, but my little sister loves this place for some reason! I think she must like the way they bring all those huge trays up and down the stairs.

Winter Wedding

I suppose if you had to calculate the cost, it's a lot cheaper to have a weekday wedding in the middle of the winter in Times Square. You can invite the world....for free. Plus every one of the guests can get a souvenir "I ♥ NY" t-shirt for only $2.99.

Gold-Digging With Pride

A pile of books stacked near the Strand. Presumably this is a pile that couldn't be resold. However, I'm happy to see they do some things in Texas with a sense of pride. It's really hard to know what goes on with those girls from Dallas, but I'm generally OK as long as they're totally upfront about it. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Jimmy Kimmel's Graffiti Truck

Jimmy Kimmel is based out of Los Angeles which isn't such a bad city, but he's damn lucky that when he comes to New York he gets to tool around town in this deluxe All City Trux. Of course, you'd expect that from a born and bred Brooklynite.

Rolling solo down Broadway on a Tuesday morning surely won't cure his narcolepsy, but I have got to admit that he looks rad behind the wheel with a bolo tie and his bachelor cap on. We'll never know, but he must have been shopping for knock off perfume and skinny ties in this super commercial part of the city. I just pray he made it over to Stumptown for a latte.

Fall for Plaid

If you follow fashion trends, you probably know that plaid is really hot this season. But it should never be so hot that your shirt ends up matching the furniture at the Ace Hotel.

I've been appreciating some English punk from the late 70s this past week. Here's "Typical Girls" by the Slits, one of my faves. I love the way the lead singer dances and red is always a good color for a jacket.

Doritos Truck!

Who doesn't love it when the Doritos truck shows up?

I've been listening to "Less Unless" the debut single from Civil Civic all morning. You can download it for free here or listen below. It is one of those songs that totally appeals to me. Once it kicks in you're hooked. For now it's only available via MP3 download although they say an EP with "Less Unless" and 4 other songs will be released later this year on a strictly limited run of 100 screen printed, vintage reel-to-reel style cassettes which is totally cool in my book. I can't wait. I'll take two.
