A pile of books stacked near the Strand. Presumably this is a pile that couldn't be resold. However, I'm happy to see they do some things in Texas with a sense of pride. It's really hard to know what goes on with those girls from Dallas, but I'm generally OK as long as they're totally upfront about it. Discuss amongst yourselves.

i used to belong to some website, now I can't remember the name, where people would register a book with the site, saying where they were going to leave it ("Dallas Woman's Guide..." atop "free" circular bin at corner of 5th and 68th), and then whoever got the books from there would post they'd gotten it/them, so others wouldn't go looking over there. it was sort of a fun way of getting rid of unwanted books,
That seems like a lot of work to get a free copy of a book on gold-digging, but if you are going to do it with pride you might need a little extra help. The only problem is that in New York if you leave anything with any value in the open for longer than 5 minutes, it's usually gone by the time you get there.
Wonderful capture! Great image. Not to say anything about the girls from Dallas! ;)
I wish I could say something about the girls from Texas. I knew one in particular, but she seems to have gone permanently AWOL. I'm really not sure why, but I suppose she had a lot to deal with.
