TV Party Tonight

New York City is the capital of anything goes, so when it comes to unusual behavior there isn't much that is off limits. You don't see this happen very often, but don't be surprised if you see a guy wearing earphones (better to block out the street noises) who finds a clean lamp post on 57th Street across from Bergdorf Goodman, opens it up to hack into the electricity, plugs in a old school full size television set and sets up a chair Archie Bunker style right on the sidewalk at 10PM. It's unlikely anyone will bother you, so cozy up next to a telephone booth and you can watch all your favorite shows in relative comfort. The fall weather in the city has been exceptionally nice so bust out the wide screen and get out on the street.

Above The Star

A view down on the Crystal Snowflake on 57th Street from the windows of Bergdorf Goodman. This is a nice view of the Bulgari and Tiffany stores that you don't see very often from this perspective. It's actually the UNICEF Snowflake and was designed by Ingo Maurer and features over 16,000 Baccarat crystals. UNICEF's marketing department does a totally crap job of promoting the snowflake because everyone knows about it cause it hangs in the middle of the city for six to eight weeks every year at the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the world, but no one has any clue that it's put up by UNICEF. Where's Audrey Hepburn when you need her?

Just Counting Cars

I saw these two sitting on the corner of 57th Street and 5th Avenue on Thursday night. Obviously, I was super curious to find out what they were doing with these crazy counting contraptions while they were watching the traffic. I asked, "What are you counting?" Their response? You guessed it. "Just counting cars."

It nice to see that the city still has money in the budget to keep them employed in such a worthwhile occupation. Excellent use of pencils too. You never see people using pencils anymore. You'd think since they're sitting right smack in front of the expensive Bergdorf Goodman window displays that the store would spring for some designer duds to spiffy up this intrepid duo's appearance.

This would make a really good performance art piece, don't you think?

Audrina Partridge's Graffiti Truck

It was another rainy day in NYC and of course I neglected to bring my umbrella. But I did run into Audrina Patridge parking her yellow graffiti truck outside of Bergdorf Goodman as she made a dash inside for a quick shopping trip. She's damn lucky she found a parking space and she did a super good job with the parallel parking.

Her truck almost matches her bikini, don't you think?

As Above So Below

Here I present three photographs from my late Saturday afternoon/early evening journey in midtown.

1. A look below from above at Bergdorf Goodman into the cufflink department.
2. Browsing through the photography books upstairs, I looked down towards the ground floor of Rizzoli Books on 57th Street and caught a great moment.
3. Finally, a window into 8 1/2, a swanky restaurant with great food on 57th Street.

You know there is a depression when there are more salespeople than shoppers at Bergdorf. A very slow sales Saturday. I saw a ton of books I wanted at Rizzoli, as usual, but I didn't buy anything. I love books.

It looks like the saleswoman behind the counter is reading a book about Heath Ledger and Jim Carroll's The Basketball Diaries. It's a good thing they don't sell US Magazine at Rizzoli.

Shoe Rack

As much as I like the idea of adding bike racks in the city, these just don't do it for me. David Byrne, former lead singer of the Talking Heads, designed a bunch of these quirky racks that are temporarily installed for a few months around the city. This one is fittingly located on 5th Avenue in front of Bergdorf Goodman. The super obvious point here is the shoe department at Bergdorf's - where every "Sex and The City" watching fashionista gets their shoe fix taken care of. It's a much needed rack but I doubt it promotes more bike riding. Why? No one parks their bike on 5th Avenue. I totally agree with this post.
