Morning of 9/11/08. It's scary to have a machine gun pointed in your general direction. There were lots of police on the streets and nary a terrorist in sight.
I assume it was a show of force on 9/11 to show the terrorists that we won't let them win. A cadre of heavily armed police officers on 6th Avenue seems to be the solution.

That is exactly that. It remains a very symbolic date. One of my colleague even delayed a flight to the next day so he would not fly on that date.
